Local interest

Landscape and Wildlife
The mild climate makes the Lizard a haven for exhausted migratory birds early in the season. Over 270 bird species are seen in the country, most of them here amid delightful settings. Rarely do we see a frost in this walkers paradise and at least 15 species of rare British plants grow on the peninsula creating one of the most important botanical sites in the country.

Whether you want to fish, dive, ride or play a round of golf at one of the nearby courses, we can arrange it. If you prefer a trip to the theatre try it Cornish style, in the open at the Minnack.

Take the opportunity to visit the Eden Project on your way down to or back from the Lizard but dont forget we have twenty really special gardens within easy driving of Kynance Bay House, Trevano, Trebah, Trereife and Trewithen to name just a few.

The Surrounding Area

Kynance Bay House and Cottages are set in a beautiful part of Cornwall, here are some of the local places we wouldnt want you to miss out on.

The Lizard
This is the most southerly village in the UK, it has a pub, restaurants, cafs and stone turning shops which form the local serpentine stone into gifts to take back from the peninsula.

Take a stroll from the cottages down to the most southerly point for spectacular scenery, a chance to spot the seals around the rocks and the Cornish emblem, the Chough is often seen flying around the headland here. You cant miss them, black feathered birds the size of jackdaws with red legs and beaks and a very bouncy style. Tucked away at the other end of the village is Church Cove, thatched cottages with stunning cottage gardens leading down to the old lifeboat slipway near to Kilcobben Cove, the launching point for the Lizard lifeboat.

Poltesco
This is a beautiful little bay with woodland walks from the National Trust car park to the pebbled beach with its glorious pink rounded pebbles. On the beach you can find ruins of an old serpentine factory.

Cadgwith
A miniscule fishing village on the east coast, the location of many film shoots. The picture postcard village of the peninsula, thatched cottages, two small beaches, fishing boats, pub and crab shop and gift shops laden with local artists work, a visit to this village is a must.

Kynance Cove
Look out of the cottage windows over to Kynance, a gorgeous beach situated just outside the Lizard village. Visit at low tide to see the spectacular serpentine caves.

Mullion
This is the largest pretty village nearby with a range of interesting things to see and do, a chocolate factory, galleries and Mullion Cove with its small harbour overlooking Mullion island.

St Keverne
St Keverne has a beautiful 15th century church with memorials to people drowned off the nearby Mannacles- the local and dreaded reef that has claimed many ships.

Coverack
Once a notorious smuggling haunt, this enchanting village has a small harbour and a large sheltered beach.

Roskillys
Last but not least, a great afternoon out at Roskillys. They make their own fabulous ice - cream, and do great BBQs in the evening. See the Jersey herd being milked, visit the craft shop and bull pen to see superb furniture made by one of the family or just enjoy lovely walks through woodland. A short stroll into St Keverne.
